Competitors on State Appraisal Boards

Competitors on State Appraisal Boards - NSAO Supports HR 3619Phil Crawford has a new Voice of Appraisal show. This is one of the best shows Phil has ever done. He touches on issues with Bifurcation, Board competitors and even mentions VaCAP and our “Other Side of Things” article that received a lot of attention on Appraisers Blogs last week. Phil encourages support for VaCAP President Pat Turner to be appointed to the Appraisal Standards Board. The show is 36 minutes, so please take the time to listen. You might even get a good laugh out of some of the humor displayed. Listen to the show below.

VaCap, along with 27 other state appraisal organizations signed a letter of support in favor of HR 3619. HR 3619 requires the disclosure of AMC fees and the appraiser fee on closing statements of a mortgage loan, registration of appraisal trainees on the ASC registry, adds a representative of the Veterans Administration to ASC and authorizes the ASC to adjust AMC registry fees. You can see the full text of HR3619 here and the letter in support of the bill below.

We applaud your interest and efforts to improve the appraisal profession and the environment in which we operate to serve better those who utilize our services and employ our members on a continuing basis. The issues addressed with H.R.3619 bring much needed relief to areas of concern that have been a focus of the appraisal and lending communities. Consumers will ultimately benefit from the directives found in H.R.3619 as they will become more aware of fees associated with the appraisal and lending process. Veterans will be represented and have additional oversight of the profession with inclusion on the Appraisal Subcommittee. Our trainees will be legitimized and represented on the Appraisal Subcommittee’s registry.

We support this proposed legislation and look forward to further conversations and efforts that can elevate the effectiveness of our services. This will increase our ability to uphold our mandate to protect the public trust.

Pat Turner has done and continues to do so much for the appraisal profession. Much of the nonsense that is occurring in the profession needs to be reined in. Pat’s experience and understanding of what is involved to produce an appraisal makes him an excellent choice for the Appraisal Standards Board.

I’m sharing Joyce’s post below. If you know Pat and believe he should be appointed, you can write/email your support:

I encourage every appraiser to write a letter of recommendation to the Appraisal Foundation on behalf of Pat Turner of Richmond, VA, and his submission for candidacy in support of his appointment to the ASB. His tireless efforts and compassion for the appraisal industry and the consumer are unsurpassed. Over 40 years of appraising, member and chairman of the VA Appraisal Board, Founder and current President of the VA Coalition of Appraisers (VACAP) to name a few of his achievements. The deadline for submission is August 19.
