A number of thoughts come to mind about TAF and IAC.

1. When you lie down with dogs you are going to get fleas.

2. If people are known by the company they keep, then what is the corollary for organizations?

3. Wasn't Clear Capital or Clear Value, or some similarly named but different fraud inducing company a highly regarded member of one of these organizations? I'm thinking of the one whose stock couldn't be legally sold in the USA but which TAF treated as if it and their rep were the Second Coming of Christ. The one with the 1/2 cent stock value in Canada.

4. A taxpayer-subsidized rule-setting organization for compliance with federal law has become a purely self-serving pay to play 'trade group' where the rules implementing laws "For the protection, the Public" are subjected first to a review and approval of the very organizations that the public need protection from in the first place.

TAF needs to be shut down. Completely. It serves no purpose for the benefit of either the public or the appraisal profession. We need to revert to a version of USPAP prior to the unreasonable influence of every lobbying group in the country bastardized the standards.

Any year version prior to 2008/2010 would be fine. Every ten years or so if there is really a great need for revisions ALL the appraisal organizations & state coalitions (large and small); can meet to discuss and propose changes which in turn are submitted to those same groups for approval.

THEN ASC or a hugely pared-down 'taf committee' (lower case) inside ASC itself can either adopt and incorporate them or not.

IF ASC cannot regain some effective control over TAF and eliminate all semblance of pay to play, then maybe FIRREA itself and all it created needs to be repealed and started over from scratch?
