Eric if there were one single solution that would be it. C&R fees that are meaningful. For ALL that an appraiser is expected to do I content that the minimum C&R fee nationally falls within a range of $900 to $1,100 for non-complex conforming fnma transactions. I reiterate the C&R fees AGA first drafted and submitted almost three years ago (add whatever Federal Civil Service COLA is from then to now 3%-6%+-).

Appraisers would rather shout “No one can tell me how much I should charge,” while ignoring the destruction of our profession in the interim. Have to wonder how many of those own or are employed as high paid managers/ advisors at AMCs.

I totally agree that the only persons who could review the work, should be experienced licensed certified and general appraisers.

In everyday mortgage origination practice, I’m often ‘managed’ by people whom do not understand what my function is. They are unable to observe or understand, through report reading, review, detailed appraisal language and process specific conversations, what I am bringing to the table in terms of skill and process compliance. They have never been in the field of real estate, yet sit in the chair portending to manage licensed appraisers, all the time rarely actually reading the appraisers reports. Whipping me into shape, taking too long, charging too much. You’re off of the peer model, correct or explain. I’m talking to the wall when I try to explain it most times. Every single person reviewing, distributing, managing appraisers and appraisals, should have an appraisers license.
